  32. This  is  the  LIMITED VERSION of CanonStudio.  You can use it for
  33. printing  pictures.   Though,  many  functions  have been disabled
  34. forcing  you to register and get the latest full featured version.
  35. This  program  is included as free offer to all Canon users and is
  36. not  part of the main Canon drivers.  Canon is not responsibel for
  37. any support, update or warranty regarding CanonStudio.

  39. In  case  you use CanonStudio register the program or this product
  40. will  most likely not be supported in the future (programs do cost
  41. more  than  time  to  develop).   Also,  your  shareware fee is my
  42. motivation  for  enhancements.   If you like, you may also buy the
  43. commercial  "Studio"  printer  software  from  your  Amiga  dealer
  44. instead of registering CanonStudio.  Studio does additionaly offer
  45. you  a nice printed manual, driver support and drivers for various
  46. non-Canon printers.

  48. Registered   users   get   an  update  service  and  an  unlimited
  49. CanonStudio version for all orig. Canon drivers.

  51. ATTENTION:   We  are  planning a release of CanonStudio on CD ROM.
  52. This would allow us to ship additional software.  The price of the
  53. CD ROM  will  most likely be equal to the disk version.  So please
  54. note  if  you  would  prefer a CD ROM of CanonStudio.  In case the
  55. CD ROM  is  available  you  will receive the CD ROM instead of the
  56. floppy  disk  version.   Note that the CD ROM will not include any
  57. printed  manual  - instead will offer ready to print dumpfiles for
  58. your printer.  This safes us a lot of postage costs and thus makes
  59. the CD-R more affordable.

  98. PLEASE,  DO MAKE SURE THE AMOUNT IS RIGHT.  In the past there were
  99. a  huge  amount of users not paying the proper amount when sending
  100. checks.  Please note CanonStudio is non-profit and as I'm planning

  102. no   room   left   for   cuts   after   paying   the  high  german

  109. I  know,  reading the "Readme" file of the drivers is a real pain.
  110. But there is a real printed manual available with pictures and all
  111. that  nice  stuff.   The manual is part of the commercial "Studio"
  112. printer software described above (Studio is available from JAM and
  113. other distributors/dealers).

  116.                     INSTALLING CANONDISK
  117.                     --------------------
  118.  
  119. CanonDisk   is   divided   into  two  independent  parts.   During
  120. installation  a  user  can  choose just the required part, or both
  121. parts.
  122.  
  123.                     CanonStudio Program
  124.  
  125. The  purpose  of  the  CanonStudio  program  is to print pictures.
  126. Pictures  are printed directly from disk without the need for much
  127. memory.  For instance you can print a huge 10 MBytes picture on an
  128. Amiga that is equipped with only 1 MBytes of memory.
  129.  
  130. If  you  have  a colour printer you can print with 24 bitplanes of
  131. colour  accuracy (16.7 million colours).  If you have a monochrome
  132. printer  you can print with 8 bitplanes of greyscale accuracy (256
  133. greys).    If   you   were   not   using   CanonStudio's  printing
  134. capabilities,  the  Amiga's  own  colour  printing  capacity is 12
  135. bitplanes   for   colour  (4096  colours),  and  4  bitplanes  for
  136. greyscales (16 greys).  Printing pictures through CanonStudio does
  137. therefore give a user greater precision.
  138.  
  139. The  CanonStudio  picture-printing  program works with every Amiga
  140. printer  driver  but  this  version  is  limited to just the Canon
  141. Workbench  drivers.   If  you  require a Version that supports all
  142. drivers purchase the ``Studio Printer Software'' package from your
  143. dealer.
  144.  
  145.                        Canon Driver
  146.  
  147. The  Canon  drivers  are  supplements  to  the  Commodore supplied
  148. printer  drivers.   They  are 100 percent Amiga compatible printer
  149. drivers,  even  though  they  offer  many  more functions than the
  150. standard printer drivers.  The additional functions of the drivers
  151. are controlled by the preferences program included with CanonDisk.
  152.  
  153. The programs and drivers are described in detail later.  Start the
  154. installation  by  double-clicking  with  the  mouse  button on the
  155. Install icon, found in the main drawer of the CanonDisk.

  160. Follow the instructions below to install the Canon software:
  161.  
  162.  
  163. * Configure and connect your printer as described in the printer's
  164. user manual and the Amiga system manual.
  165.  
  166. * Set your printers dip switches as described in the table below:
  167.

  179.     BJC 610      all except ->            1, 3, 11
  180.     BJC 4000     all except ->         1, 4, 11, 12
  181.     BJC 4100     Use the installed SetupBJL-BJC4100 program.
  182.                  Perform the "Setup for Amiga" action.
  183.  
  184. Please note these settings reflect those of DIN A4 paper size
  185. users. US Letter paper users require a slightly different setting.
  186.  
  187. * Boot your Amiga with your usual system or Workbench disk.
  188.  
  189. *  If  you don't own a hard drive, prepare an empty floppy disk by
  190. using the system Format command.
  191.  
  192. *  We  anticipate  that  most Canon users will want to install the
  193. program  on to a hard drive.  If you do not have a hard drive then
  194. you  must  install  some  parts  (documentation  and CanonPref) of
  195. CanonDisk  onto  an  empty floppy, using the supplied installation
  196. program.   You  cannot  run  the  Canon software directly from its
  197. installation disk because it is stored in a compressed format.
  198.  
  199. *  If  your  system  has  only  a single floppy drive (and no hard
  200. drive), the installation program will cause a large number of disk
  201. swaps while it gets things prepared for the main installation.
  202.  
  203. * Double click on the Install icon found in the main drawer of the
  204. CanonDisk.   The  installation  process  is automatic and uses the
  205. Commodore  standard  Installer  program.  The installation process
  206. has  been  designed to provide on-line instructions as you install
  207. the  product.   Any  questions  that  you  might  have  about  the
  208. installation  process  should  be  answered  by  the  on-line help
  209. contained in the installation program.
  210.  
  211. The  install program will copy the driver to your system disk.  In
  212. order  to do so, you need 45 KByte empty disk space on your system
  213. disk.  Additional programs can be saved to an empty floppy disk or
  214. hard disk and may not be saved to the system disk.
  215.    
  216. !  Most likely floppy users must make space on their system disk in
  217.    order to install the driver. This can be done by deleting unneeded
  218.    programs using the Workbenchs 3.0 "Delete..." menu item.
  219.    The installation program will do the job for you if you like.
  220.    You will be asked before each file is deleted.
  221.    
  222.    Here is list of programs that might be deleted:

  234. * Canon BJC800 users should note, that the Canon BJC800 printer is
  235. a  single  page  printer.  The printer does not support continuous
  236. form paper.  Because of this the page length must be defined!  The
  237. driver  can do this automaticly for you, in case you set the paper
  238. length  in  Workbench  preferences  to 250 lines.  Don't forget to
  239. turn  on  "Enable  Form"  in  the CanonBJECPref program!  Select a
  240. paper type of "Wide Tractor" for printing on DIN A3 sized paper.
  241.  
  242. *  Select  a  paper type of Wide Tractor for printing on DIN A3 A3
  243. sized paper on BJ 230 or BJ330 printers.
  244.  
  245. *  Please note that each Canon driver uses it's own setting files.
  246. You  may  install  several  Canon  drivers  as  long  as  they are
  247. different.
  248.  
  249. *  The  installation  program also installs a README file with the
  250. driver and CanonStudio covering the software in detail.
  251.  
  252. *  In  case of problems with the software use the "Report" program
  253. described by the installed README file!
  254.  
  255. *  Canon  BJC  610 users:  please note that printing 720 dpi using
  256. the  CanonBJ-EC Workbench driver requires major color adjustments.
  257. Use the CanonPref menu presets for adjusting the driver for 720dpi
  258. support.  Note that the Canon BJC 610 will only print 720 graphics
  259. in  BJC  mode  (extended  emulation).  For best image dumps on the
  260. Amiga use CanonStudio's CMS for printing 720dpi (only available to
  261. registered  users).  BJC 610 users should use the BJC 600 profiles
  262. with the printing program for printing 360dpi.  So when installing
  263. the  profiles,  select  the  BJC  600  and  BJC  610  profiles  as
  264. recommended  by  the  installation  program.   More  Canon BJC 610
  265. 720dpi  and  720*360dpi  profiles  for  various dither methods and
  266. paper  types  are  under  development (registered users should see
  267. CompuServe's  AmigaUser  forum  library  for  the  latest profiles
  268. updates).
  269.  
  270. If you experience strong stripes/banding of 1mm height in your BJC
  271. 610  output:   make  sure you run the print head alignment test as
  272. described in the BJC manual.  Also make sure the print head is ok.
  273. Perform  a  printer  nozzles  test  as described in the manual and
  274. clean  the print head several times.  In some cases it can help to
  275. print  20-30  fully  colored pages if the print head was new.  The
  276. stripes are not caused by the printer driver.  However, your print
  277. mode,  dither  method  and paper used are important.  Don't try to
  278. print  high resolution on bad paper.  You rather get worse results
  279. compared  to  360  dpi  dumps.   If  you  do experience 1mm height
  280. stripes,  try  switching  the dither method.  The BJC often prints
  281. less  horizontal  stripes  when  using  an error diffusion (Floyd,
  282. Stucki,...)  or Blue Noise dither method.  However this might slow
  283. down your printing speed a lot.
  284.  
  285. So  BJC 610 users please stay tuned for new driver versions.  Rome
  286. wasn't build in one night.  Neither can I ;-)
  287.  
  288. *  Canon  BJC  4100  users:  please note that printing 720*360 dpi
  289. using   the  CanonBJ-EC  Workbench  driver  requires  major  color
  290. adjustments.  Use the CanonBJECPref menu presets for adjusting the
  291. driver for 720dpi support.  Note that the Canon BJC 4100 will only
  292. print  720*360dpi  graphics in BJC mode (extended emulation).  For
  293. best  image  dumps on the Amiga use CanonStudio's CMS for printing
  294. 720*360dpi  (only  available to registered users).  BJC 4100 users
  295. should  use  the  BJC  4000 profiles with the printing program for
  296. printing  360dpi.  So when installing the profiles, select the BJC
  297. 4000  AND  BJC  4100  profiles  as recommended by the installation
  298. program.

  302. After  successfully running the Install program, try printing from
  303. the  application with which you normally print.  In most cases you
  304. should  straight  away  notice  major  improvements  in  speed and
  305. quality, but you can do much better once you have adjusted all the
  306. settings   of   the   driver   to  match  your  environment.   The
  307. installation  program  is unable to adjust all the driver settings
  308. for   your  printer  because  every  printer,  paper  and  ink  is
  309. different.   It  is your task now to use your experience with your
  310. software  and  printer  to further adjust the settings made by the
  311. Install  program.   This  will  result  in further improvements in
  312. output quality.

  314. Please  share  your printing experiences with other Canon users by
  315. sending  your  settings  to  Wolf  Faust.   This will allow future
  316. enhancements  of  CanonDisk.   You  can easily print your settings
  317. using  the  Report program mentioned in the error chapter.  Please
  318. don't  forget to mention the name of your printer, and the type of
  319. paper you are using.
